Program Details

Our Women’s Jiu Jitsu program is one of the largest and most active women’s BJJ communities in Chicago. This class track provides a safe and empowering space for women to learn and grow in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a space of their own. Whether you’re new to jiu jitsu or looking to sharpen your competitive edge, you’ll find skilled instruction, supportive training partners, and an environment designed to build confidence and community.

Women's classes typically include a warm-up, technical instruction, partner drills, positional sparring, and conditioning. The program emphasizes self-defense applications, technical development, and camaraderie among women on and off the mats.

Self-Defense Woven Into the Curriculum

Women's BJJ at SJJC emphasizes practical self-defense applications alongside technical development. What you learn here has real-world value, not just sport application.

Frequently Asked questions

Do I need any experience to join the Women's BJJ class?

No experience is required. The class is open to all levels, and instruction is structured so that newer students and experienced grapplers can train together productively. If you're starting from scratch, the Women's BJJ class is a natural entry point.

We begin each member with a goal setting consultation and most go through our 6 week transformation challenge to begin.

Is this class only for women?

Yes. Women's Jiu Jitsu at SJJC is a women-only class. All training partners and participants are women.

How is Women's BJJ different from the BJJ Fundamentals or All Levels classes?

The Women's BJJ class covers similar foundational and intermediate material, but within a dedicated community of female practitioners. Some women prefer to start here before moving into mixed-gender classes. Others train exclusively in this class schedule. Both are valid paths and we're happy to support you in the way that works best.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable athletic wear works for your first visit. Once you're enrolled, you'll train in a gi (a traditional uniform) for some classes. Your coach will let you know exactly what to get before you start and we have loaner gis available for those who need one.

How do I sign up?

Everyone starts with a free goal setting consultation. That's where you'll meet with a coaches, tour the SJJC facility, talk through your goals, and learn how the program works before committing to anything. You can book online or call us at (850) 368-6861.
